Why SPEEDBIRD
Speedbird is the stylised bird Theyre Lee-Elliott drew for Imperial Airways in 1932. BOAC kept the emblem after the 1939 merger and adopted it as its radio call sign, and British Airways inherited both in 1974. The bird left the livery in the 1980s; the call sign never did.
