Why ABEX
ABX Air was the airline of Airborne Express, the parcel carrier founded in 1949. When DHL bought Airborne's ground business in 2003, foreign-ownership rules kept it from taking the airline too, so ABX Air was spun off on its own. ABX is short for Airborne Express, and ABEX is how the letters are spoken on frequency.
ABX Air is an American cargo airline based at Wilmington Air Park in Ohio. The company provides specialized scheduled freight services, ad hoc charters, and ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) operations for global logistics providers like DHL and Amazon Air. Its operations are powered by a fleet of converted Boeing 767 freighter aircraft.
